CREATIVE
MINISTRY
Have you discovered the unique purpose God has for your life? What drives you? Who are the people you most want to help? What cause are you passionate about?
An environment which promotes individual learning helps develop knowledge and skills as well as identifying areas where growth is needed in order to fulfil the call of God. This is the purpose of the Creative Ministry module which provides hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply Bible principles in practical and focused ways.
The Creative Ministry takes place once a week and you will have the option to choose one of the following Creative Ministries.
The list below is indicative only, and the number and characteristics of creative ministries may vary from year to year depending on the number of students, the availability of staff and external circumstances (e.g: Covid-19).
EMPATHY FOR
OLDER PEOPLE
This ministry was born out of empathy for older people. We visit a care home once a week and try to do little things that will make a big difference in their daily routine. We welcome every student that has a genuine concern for older people, is able to listen to their life stories as a precious “audio book” full of wisdom and empower them with God’s promises and love. Through this ministry the students learn how much we are dependent on God and the care of each other. There is no age limit to how God works, and His love never grows old. All of these experiences that the students get lead them to a deeper understanding of life’s seasons, and God’s presence through them all. Isaiah 46:4 “Even to your old age and grey hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you”.
SOCIAL ACTION
The aim of this Creative Ministry is to support people living in the Brighton and Hove area who are part of the rough-sleeping community. Students who participate in this project have the opportunity to express Christian compassion and care towards people who live in this context by offering practical and spiritual support on the streets.
The spiritual element of this ministry is central to its purpose and distinguishes it from many other agencies working in this field. Students work alongside an established Christian homeless organisation and learn more about why people become homeless and the main issues which affect them and can hinder them from breaking-out of the homelessness cycle. Furthermore, students see how Christians can help tackle this issue by helping people find Jesus and the life that He offers.
EVANGELISM & PERFORMING ARTS
This creative ministry came out of a desire to communicate the gospel to everyone and introduce people to Jesus.
Using art and the talents God has given us, we want to reach out and impact people showing them who God really is and what He has done for all of us.
DISCIPLESHIP
In the Discipleship Creative Ministry, students explore what an appropriate response to Jesus’ last words before his ascension may look like in the 21st century – the Great Commission to ‘go and make disciples’. Most of society’s current criticism and mistrust towards Christianity is due to the discrepancy between the theoretical values of the Christian message and the way Christians actually live their lives. As in many parts of the world the church has lost its culture of discipleship; it has lost its credibility along with it. In this creative ministry students will be confronted with Biblical principles such as the priesthood of all believers and the call for every Christian to be increasingly transformed into Christlikeness. Following the exploration of scriptural foundations, students go on to try out different methods of discipleship, observing discipleship courses and structures implemented in local churches and intentionally begin to create their own response to the call to discipleship.
WORSHIP &
PRAYER
Prayer and worship are vital for every believer. Intimacy with God is the first and ongoing experience which leads to an effective and influential ministry and glorifies God by us enjoying him forever. Through this creative ministry we explore different ways to encounter God in his holy place and to experience his glory so that in the end we may say as John the Baptist did: “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). As we glorify God, he satisfies our lives. In this creative ministry students have the possibility to work on weak areas, defeating giants and preparing to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth, fulfilling the great commission. The closer we are to God the more influential we become.
EVENT ORGANISING & PROMOTING
Whenever people are brought together, be it for a birthday celebration, a church service, an outreach in the streets or a simple lunch among friends, an event is taking place. The aim of this creative ministry is for the students to learn the art of organising an event that encompasses the values of honouring, fellowship, gratitude and celebration. Thus, they acquire a skill that will prove to be a powerful tool in any area of ministry they might later be involved in. Complementing each other’s strengths and weaknesses, participants of this creative ministry will work together and be involved in the organisation of a number of college events throughout the year. They will be able to practically transmit the message of God’s love and care for people by making an effort in preparing an event and serving others in a practical way. That is how students will develop competencies in marketing, organising, decorating and catering.
MEDIA IN MINISTRY
The church is experiencing a time of profound change in communication. More and more often churches use new technologies to transmit and communicate the message of the Gospel and it is done in an ever more creative way. Not only that, but also church activities are often shared to a wider audience via social media. Through the Media Creative Ministry we provide the basic knowledge about different communication methods (video, audio, photography) that are useful for the church in this area. The programme is structured in such a way that the student learns to use P.A. systems, cameras and video cameras. During the year they are assigned a number of projects which give them the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge acquired.
