1st YEAR COURSE

Social Context of the New Testament:

In this subject we try to understand the context of the social and political environment in which Jesus ministered and in which the early church was established. We look at the 400 years between the Old and New Testament; particularly the conquests of Alexander the Great and his successors, the Hasmonean kingdom and the Roman occupation.

We also look at the first century Jewish political and social and religious structure, as well as looking at the social context of the towns that some of the New Testament letters were written to. Finally, we look at how understanding culture can change our understanding of the bible text.

2ND YEAR COURSE

Eschatology: A study of the “Last Things” in the light of prophecy in the Old and New Testament; What the Bible says is going to happen and what will be the sequence of those events?
